According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the tremor occurred at 7:36 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time on August 8, corresponding to 03:36 UTC on August 9. The quake’s epicenter was approximately 48 miles, or 77 kilometers, southeast of Atka, with seismologists estimating its depth at around 10.6 miles, or 17 kilometers.
