BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – On Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin. The agenda centered on strengthening UAE-Germany collaborations in economic and development sectors. Additionally, regional and global issues, diplomacy, peace efforts, and international security topics were addressed. This meeting took place alongside President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany, held from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

Both officials explored avenues to deepen the strategic alliance and enhance cooperation across various domains. Sheikh Abdullah characterized the relations between UAE and Germany as robust and enduring, emphasizing ongoing progress. He also underscored a mutual dedication to building on past successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. The exchange included Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah sharing perspectives on shared interests and diplomatic solutions to crises.

The broader state visit contributed to formalizing the bilateral partnership. The German Federal Government described it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with both leaders announcing the launch of a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform will encompass areas such as security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate change, technology, digital transformation, transportation, environmental protection, and education.

Enhanced bilateral cooperation through strategic dialogue

Plans for a German-UAE Investment Council received backing from both governments to bolster engagement between the public and private sectors. The resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and outcomes from a bilateral business forum were also welcomed. According to the joint declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment package totaling 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic collaboration extends into energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration highlighted ongoing and upcoming projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for sophisticated data centers with an approximate capacity of one gigawatt. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key sectors of their expanded partnership.

    Diplomatic and regional stability discussions

During their Berlin talks, the foreign ministers also examined regional and international developments. Focus was placed on amplifying global efforts to support peace and stability, while safeguarding international security. The use of diplomatic means to resolve crises was a recurring theme, aligning with topics raised during the state visit. The German government had also included Middle East peace and stability as focal points for the leaders’ discussions.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh attended the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their conversations linked foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development within the framework of bilateral relations. These discussions complemented formal mechanisms established for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaboration. The meetings in Berlin marked the most recent chapter in the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2004.
