CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – By the end of August 2026, Egypt’s net international reserves reached an all-time peak of $57.2145 billion. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this preliminary figure on September 7. At the close of July, reserves were reported at $56.2939 billion. This indicates an increase of approximately $920.6 million in August, or around 1.6%. This latest figure continues a pattern of monthly increases in 2026, pushing Egypt’s official foreign reserves past the $57 billion mark for the first time.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

Compared to August 2025, when reserves stood at $49.2507 billion, the total for August 2026 has grown by $7.9638 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of about 16.2%. At the end of December 2025, Egypt’s net international reserves were $51.4516 billion. Over the first eight months of 2026, reserves have surged by roughly $5.76 billion, or 11.2%. Official monthly data shows a consistent rise in reserves every month since the start of the year, with gains persisting through August.

The pace of reserve accumulation accelerated during mid-2026. In May, net international reserves hit $53.1342 billion before climbing to $55.0723 billion in June. The upward trend continued in July, reaching $56.2939 billion, and peaked in August at $57.2145 billion. The increase from May to June was about $1.94 billion, July added another $1.22 billion, and August contributed roughly $920.6 million. These three consecutive monthly increases collectively added over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve holdings.

    Elevated foreign currency inflows persist

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also attained record levels during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported remittance inflows of roughly $47.3 billion for that period, marking a 29.6% rise from approximately $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances reached about $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion registered in June 2025, according to official data released in August.

Egypt’s latest available balance of payments data covers the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026. During these nine months, the overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account posted net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account experienced a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official insight into Egypt’s external account situation prior to the August update on international reserves.

Continuous monthly highs in reserve holdings

Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve totals have achieved multiple new record highs. In January, reserves were $52.5938 billion, followed by $52.7455 billion in February. March saw a rise to $52.8306 billion, then $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. June’s reserves exceeded $55 billion, July surpassed $56 billion, and August reached over $57 billion. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the approach for the most recent monthly updates.

Compared to its position a year earlier, Egypt’s August reserves are nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now recorded three consecutive month-end totals exceeding $55 billion. July marked the first month with reserves above $56 billion, while August marked the first over $57 billion. The reserve stock has expanded by more than 10% since December 2025. The August data not only sets a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves but also continues the uninterrupted monthly growth trend throughout 2026.
