ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan saw another increase in petrol prices on October 6 following the daily fuel adjustment. The cost of petrol was raised by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, building on the upward trend seen three days earlier. Conversely, high-speed diesel experienced a decline, dropping by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This recent change came after an October 3 decision that raised both key transport fuels. At that time, petrol was set at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel rose by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that the review was based on shifts in international fuel prices. Factors such as global market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs influenced the pricing calculations. These elements continue to play a central role in Pakistan’s fuel review process. The increase on October 3 served as the foundation for the subsequent revision that took effect on October 6.
The decision on October 6 added Rs0.88 to petrol, raising its price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel reversed its previous gain, decreasing from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. When compared with October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, and diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government of Pakistan continues to levy taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with a similar Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
Daily fuel pricing aligns with shifts in global markets
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the previous weekly revision schedule that began in March. This approach ties domestic fuel prices directly to movements in international markets and other key inputs. Prior to this change, fuel prices were typically reviewed over longer periods. The current system allows for independent daily adjustments for petrol and diesel, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel declined.
Despite recent fluctuations, fuel prices remain below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel hit Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, while diesel was approximately Rs281 per litre. By October 6, petrol’s price was Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel was Rs122.59 lower than its peak. Both fuels have seen significant declines from their maximum levels in April.
Petrol increases and diesel decreases after October 3 adjustments
In Pakistan, petrol is primarily used in private vehicles, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws. High-speed diesel caters to heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. These two fuels serve different sectors of the country’s transportation and energy needs. Both petrol and high-speed diesel are also significant sources of petroleum revenue based on sales volume. Recent adjustments have seen these fuels move in different directions on multiple days. On October 3, both prices increased, but the October 6 revision resulted in petrol rising and diesel falling.
For October 6, the current petrol rate stands at Rs393.64 per litre, while high-speed diesel costs Rs397.76. These figures replace the October 3 rates of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64, respectively. Since that review, petrol has gained Rs0.88, and diesel has decreased by Rs1.88. The latest rates continue the pattern of frequent daily changes under the current pricing system, impacting motorists and commercial operators during the October period.
